Lil Wayne Being Sued

Lil’ Wayne Sued Over Rolling Stones Sample

Lil’ Wayne is being sued by rock legends The Rolling Stones for copyright infringement and unfair competition over a track on his latest album "Tha Carter III."
Music publisher Abkco Music Inc, who own the rights to The Rolling Stones’ "Play With Fire," filed the lawsuit in a New York federal court on Thursday (July 24) claiming Lil’ Wayne created an updated version of their track without permission for his "Playing With Fire" track.
The lawsuit claims the rapper’s song is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones version citing the original lyrics "But don’t play with me, ‘cause you’re playing with fire" being changed to "But you can’t blame me if I set this stage on fire." The suit also claims Lil’ Wayne has used "explicit, sexist and offensive" language which could give the impression The Stones approve of the new version.
The rapper’s collaborators and record label Cash Money/Young Money have also been name in the lawsuit which is seeking unspecified damages.
Lil’ Wayne’s "Tha Carter III" has sold over 2 million copies in the United States in the five weeks since its release.
