Breakdown of the Love Lockdown Video

it’s love symbolized through primal and tribal means. About how it can feel to have all of it to yourself, with no one knowing, just in your head. That living room is Kanye’s mind and everything and everyone else are his thoughts and feelings.

Love can be like a wild untamed animal. Uncontrollable, violent, unpredictable. But, it can also have the natural movement of an animal: slick yet stable, power balanced with grace, like the steady vibrations of a beating heart … or drum. Humans tend to forget that they have primal instincts, tribal thoughts, animal rhythm. We can blend mental love and fleshly lust; we can make a war of it. It’s painful and raw, but it’s human.

What’s also human is that we realize our emotions, and then fight them (for a variety of reasons; personal, social, cultural). We cage the animality of love that wants to run wild and free. Wants to love who it loves with no thought getting in the way of what it desires. Without having to hide it and lock it up. We lose.

Jim Jones and T.I. Beef?

Jim Jones Interview with Complex Magazine:

Here are the original comments as told to Complex magazine.

Complex: You and Juelz are all about that swag-splashing. How do you feel about not being included on “Swagger Like Us”?

Jim Jones: I think it was deliberate. I really do think it was deliberate; maybe in my sick twisted mind I’m a little crazy. People know who set the precedent as far as fashion in this industry and people know who damn near changed the world as far as fashion. You look at people, they went from the urban world of clothing, back when Rocawear and Sean John was cool. And then in the past 5 years I stepped in and gave them a taste of what rock and roll looks like from my side. I guess people would say from an urban side, and it seemed to catch on like wildfire, to the point that people was going to stores and asking for that Jim Jones look. Me and Juelz had Chink do our own beat, I have Weezy’s verse in my inbox right now and we kept the hook of that song because it was a sample. So we’re going to put that as a bonus track on the album, and put it to the streets. “No one on the corner got swag like you we don’t Rocawear that’s for fags like you.” [Laughs.]

Complex: Ahhh…

Jim Jones: And look at the Vibe cover. Tell me who Jay-Z looks like in there? Did you see the picture of him? With the Louis Vuitton scarf and all that. Who did that resemble? You can say it. But he did it wrong; he had a Gucci belt with a Louis Vuitton scarf. Who does that? You smell me? That’s like wearing one Nike and one Puma; how you going to get away with that? But I didn’t take the song as a shot, because I don’t feel like none [besides Weezy] of them possess any swag.

Complex: What about T.I?

Jim Jones: I don’t feel like he possesses any swag. Not like that. It’s fabricated. They’re watching other people, then they try and do it. You know people that dress like T.I.? You know people that go out and say let me get a T.I. outfit or do you know people who say “yo, you’re looking like Jim Jones?” Which one? Lemme hear it! When the bitches want to fuck you and the niggas want be like you, who got the swag? Niggas with money and fame always going to look like they doing something ’cause they got the camera in front of them. But the cool dudes always stick out no matter where they at.

Eminem Best Rapper Alive?

Eminem has been voted the greatest rapper alive by fans and readers of VIBE Magazine and its website.
Although Em hasn't released a full solo album since 2004's Encore, his fan base has shown that it remains tremendously loyal.
Vibe broke the competition down tournament style, placing a slew of emcees into four brackets: the Notorious BIG bracket, the 2Pac bracket, the Pimp C bracket, and the Big Punisher bracket. The number one seeds in each bracket were, respectively, Jay-Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne and Andre 3000.
After voting each week from July 21 to August 4, the final were decided. Eminem and Jay-Z made it to the final four, as expected. Somewhat unexpected was Game's defeat of Andre 3000 in order to make it to the semifinals, and Ludacris' defeat of Lil Wayne in order to claim the same spot.
Eminem, who had beaten Nas by a slim margin to claim a final four spot, and Jay-Z made short work of Ludacris and Game, respectively. The two legends faced off in votes, and after over 920,000 votes, Em beat out Hov, retaining 61 percent of the votes to Hov's 39 percent.

"It’s obviously an honor to have won the fans' support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive,” said Eminem to the fans on Vibe.com. “I don't think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since VIBE's offering the distinction, hell yeah I'll accept!"

Paper Trails Goes Gold in First Week

The King amongst kings is back. T.I. shocks many, not only going gold within one week, but taking the number one spot by a sound margin. Paper Trail beat out #2 debut Jennifer Hudson by over 300,000 units, as Atlantic Records' flagship artist reminds fans that while he's not performing quite as strongly as Lil Wayne's first week on the charts, he's well beyond perceived competition Young Jeezy, The Game and Nas, in commercial viability.

McCain Calls Obama "that one" During Second Debate

After a presidential debate with its share of awkward moments, early network polls suggest Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, came away victorious over his GOP rival, John McCain, in last night's town hall formatted debate.
A focus group by NBC had the Illinois senator winning 60-40. CBS had Obama winning 39-27 (35 percent said it was a tie). Even the conservative leaning Fox News had Obama with a slight edge on McCain.
In what may have been a potential deathblow for the McCain campaign, one awkward moment came when the Arizona senator did not address Obama by name when answering a question about energy.
"I know you grow a little weary of this back and forth," McCain said addressing the audience when talking about a bill on energy. "You know who voted for it?" he asked rhetorically. "That one," he said of Obama while jabbing his finger in Obama's direction.

The move stoked allegations of race baiting by Obama supporters on a day when McCain-Palin rallies became increasingly more hostile to Obama.
When GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin mentioned Obama's association with former domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, she drew a series of boos from the crowd as well as one disturbing retort.
"Kill him!" one man responded, presumably talking about Obama.
"I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way you and I see America, as the greatest force for good in the world. I'm afraid this is someone who sees America as 'imperfect enough' to work with a former domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country," Palin added.
The final presidential debate is slated for October 15 at Hofstra.

HIp HOP saLES.

Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 9/28/08

R&B ran things for urban music this past week, just as 2008 saw many weeks before Tha Carter III arrived. In their 25th year, Metallica assumed the top spot again, with their Death Magnetic, selling over 335,000 units in its second work on the charts. Ne-Yo's [click to read] Year of the Gentleman [click to read] held the #3 place with a strong second week in stores. One of Ne-Yo's crooning forefathers, Joe, returned with his newest album, also cracking the Top 10, with a #8 showing
Young Jeezy [click to read] still snuggled his way into the Top 10, with his Recession [click to read] taking the #9 spot, with a chance of going gold this week. The Game [click to read] returned in a major way this week. His LAX [click to read] bypassed recent releases from LL Cool J and Nelly, but still sold just over 6,000 units less than Lil Wayne [click to read], who still remains a force to be reckoned with in his third edition of Tha Carter [click to read] .

Falling 16 spots in a week, Nelly [click to read] may be showing that he's lost ground as one of Hip Hop's most commercial artists. Brass Knuckles [click to read] cracked 100,000 units in two weeks, but has already given way to tattooed gangsters Nelly's junior. Another warning sign may be evident in DJ Khaled's [click to read] We Global. With projections of a slow and steady performance on the charts, the Miami deejay seems to suffer a bit without packing a monster single in his third album, doubling his rank in a week.
R&B veteran Rapheal Saadiq's critically-acclaimed album The Way I See It [click to read] fell to #41 in its second week.
Hip Hop's big surprise on the charts this week is Houston rapper and ABN affiliate Z-Ro. The Rap-A-Lot Records veteran's Crack proves to be matching Shawty Lo's performance, with the Asylum-distributed album cracking the Top 50, and selling over 10,000 in its debut week. Lastly, B.G. [click to read] and his Chopper City Boyz also entered on the Top 200, with their Life In The Concrete Jungle last week, but unlike Slim Thug and similar artists, have held onto position, staying at #182, selling just over 3,000 units.

Can T.I. get a position fit for a King? Will Big Kuntry go with him on Grand Hustle's double-release day. Does underground Hip Hop stand with Heltah Skeltah and Termanology coming? Moreover, will Murs convince major labels that the DIY artist can compete with the ringtone rapper? And will Large Professor get his due return to the charts? A busy week will reflect this next week on the
charts...

Kanye West Gets Unexpected Album Input From Rilo Kiley
September 22nd, 2008 Author: Danielle Harling
Rapper Kanye West has turned to quite unconventional methods in choosing the tracks for his new album, including asking random people for feedback on potential tracks for his album 808's And Heartbreaks.
West recently approached Rilo Kiley actress/singer Jenny Lewis and asked for her opinion on a track.
"We missed our flight and had to wait a couple of hours in the lounge," Lewis told Entertainment Weekly. "I noticed Kanye West was waiting for the same flight. He looked over and said, 'Excuse me, would you mind listening to my new track?' And so he put his headphones on my head and I listened to two of his new songs. He had no idea who I was. I guess he was doing research."
Lewis appeared on television shows such as Roseanne, Growing Pains, and Mr. Belvedere. She is currently pursuing a career in music and is the lead singer of the band Rilo Kiley.
The expected release date for 808's And Heartbreak is December 16.

ObAma CAmpaiGn ENDorSES ComPilAtion CD

Obama Campaign Officially Endorses Compilation

It's no secret that many musicians have backed Senator Barack Obama in the race for The White House. Although many have already released songs in support of the Senator, plans are also set to release an entire album to show solidarity on the side of Obama.
Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement is the presumed title of the project, said to include artists including Kanye West, John Legend, Jill Scott, Will.i.am and others. It will be available for digital download at $24.99 and $30 for the actual CD through Hidden Beach Recordings. Proceeds will benefit the Obama campaign.
"We had conversations quite some time ago about how to harness what was happening really organically and naturally with so many artists," Steve McKeever, CEO of Hidden Beach Recordings told the Associated Press. "The whole concept (was) how do we translate that to inspire and invigorate and also give people a keepsake that they can own while at the same time providing some important capital needed for this campaign."
The Obama Campaign purchased the rights to the CD and they have it for sale on their site, http://www.barackobama.com/, along with a small statement.
"Through their musical contributions, the artists seek to mobilize voters in the final stretch before the November election. Many of the artists involved will also be volunteering their time to promote voter registration."
The site also allows for a free listening preview of the album. The tracklisting is below.
1. Eternity - Lionel Richie
2. Signed Sealed Delivered - Stevie Wonder
3. Waiting On The World To Change - John Mayer
